How to Make Flowers Last Longer

We have realized that few people know how to care for cut flowers since we have grown them and shared them with others.

Some of the questions we have heard are listed below, so we have provided some tips to help your flowers last longer.

Do they need to be kept in the sun? ”

Is there a specific time when I should change the water? ”

“Can I display them on the mantle? ”

Most people consider cut flowers to be live plants, and they wish to maintain them as such. You are encouraged to make a shift in your thinking and treat them as you would fresh produce. Would strawberries last for days if left in the sun or for a couple of weeks on the counter if they were left in the sun?

Follow these simple guidelines and you will be amazed at how long you can keep a vase of flowers on the table.

  1. Ensure that flowers are placed in fresh water as soon as possible.

  2. When you get your flowers home, you should recut the stems.

  3. Remove any leaves that would be submerged in water when preparing flowers for a vase.

  4. If you wish to prevent bacteria from infecting your flowers and causing them to decay, we recommend using vinegar or bleach in the water,, just a drop

  5. When flowers are growing, they enjoy the sun. However, once they are cut, the sun significantly diminishes the vase life of the flowers.

  6. If you visit a florist, you will notice that the flowers are always stored in a cooler. Keep in mind that flowers are similar to produce. It is even possible to keep flowers in the refrigerator if you intend to use them at an upcoming event.

  7. Changing the water every other day, or on a daily basis if it appears cloudy or sour, is recommended. The stems of drooping flowers should be re-cut with a sharp pair of pruners.

If you follow these simple guidelines you can be sure to get the most out of your flowers. And by the time you’re ready for a new bouquet, something new will be blooming!
